Humid hide pays off

wpglaeser Jan 15, 2006 09:05 PM

I made a humid hide out of a small ziploc disposable tub with a hole in the side and some wet moss. It was originally for my milk snake, but he doesn't need it since he never comes out of the damp mulch. So, I gave it to my daughter's '05 Okeetee, Tia. I introduced her to it pre-shed and last night put a pinkie in it. When I checked on my daughter sleeping last night, I peeked at Tia and she found the pinkie and was coiled up in the humid hide. Today, my daughter said Tia was hanging out in it again, and later she yelled "TIA SHED !!!".

She really likes it, unlike my son's '05 king snake who won't go in it for anything.

Anybody else's corn use a humid hide?

No, I'm not housing them together. I made a second humid hide for the king, but he ignores it. He's always hated his deli cup and I think this reminds him of it...lol!

Every snake will make use of a humid hide when they need to. It is a good idea to leave your king one just in case he needs it especially around shed time.

That's excellent that you have a good himid hide. I'm a big believer in them. I use clay pots on the warm side of my enclosures for all of my snakes. All I do is take a papertowl or two and soak it with warm water, squeeze it out so as it's pretty moist, and place in the pot. For the most part, I only do this when I know my snakes are going into the blue, but not a bad idea to give them a warm moist choice all of the time.

The only thing that concerns me about having the humid hide there all the time is scale-rot. I know that if they sit on too much moistness, this can develop. I had a humid hide in the enclosure with one of my snakes and he was ALWAYS in it... which concerned me... so I took it out. Now, I only put it in, like Steve, when they are in the blue. Any thoughts/ideas?
