Event this weekend, tips on LONG transport?

ice0003 Jan 16, 2006 09:25 AM

I haven't been able to find any online places to order RETF's from yet that are trustworthy and safe for all parties involved. There is a reptile event I think I will be attending this weekend in Pittsburgh, PA, but for me thats a 3 - 3.5 hour
road trip.

What precautions should I take and what should I have setup for them if i do indeed find a pair I like and decide to try and bring them home with me same day? This long road trip should consist mostoly of highway travel, with a few bumps in the beginning and the end.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

Try to not stop, and if you do.. make them quick (eat and fill up with gas before getting to the show etc.. ). Get a styrofoam cooler or fish box to transport em in.. Make sure the cooler is warm when you put the animals in it.. either take it in the show with you.. or put a heat pack in it to keep it warm while you are in the show. Once your car is warm, and your on the road.. you won't need the heat pack.. so take it out.

Make sure when you get the frogs that the container has moisture in it.. (wet paper towel, sponge or spaghnum)..

I have traveled 100's of miles w/ RETF's.. keep em warm, moist and dark.. and you should be fine..

best of luck with your search..

Thanks Tim, thats basically what I figured but I wanted someone to clarify it for me. These are going to be my first RETFs, but I have no decent source in my area to buy them from, best I can hope for in my local pet stores is a White's.

Thanks again!
