Haven't been on this forum for a long time... I know it's been asked here before, but here goes...
I'm leading a group of Canadian wildlife biology students down from the snow and ice in February to the Everglades and Keys. We'll be camping, birding, snorkelling, and of course, herping!
I'm hoping some of you might be able to suggest some good places to check out for herps. I fully realize the reluctance people have to share location data (myself included) and yet I'm hoping to convince you that it would be okay! I have many people in Canada, and the US, who could vouch for me if necessary. We will not be collecting anything, but I would like for the group to find a fair variety stuff, get some pictures, etc. When I've gone in the past, I've just poked around on my own (didn't find very much, to be honest) but with the size of the group (~14) and our tight schedule, I'd like to know ahead of time where we're stopping, etc. instead of trying to make it up as we go along...
We'll be heading down I-75 and across the Tamiami Trail, spending some time in the Naples/Everglades City area, the Long Pine Key area of Everglades NP, and the Big Pine Key area. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
If you are willing to provide any specific advice, please do so via email rather than posting it here.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff Hathaway
