Quick survey: Pop or Probe?

when sexing large Dry hatchlings, do you use the popping technique or do you stick with the probe?

I will first try to "pop" the hemipenes. If a hemipene is not everted, and, before I assume its a female, I will then probe the hatcling so that I can get a 100% verification of sex; so far, I haven't messed up since going to this method. Caution: if you haven't done this before, make sure you have someone knowledgeable show you the proper techniques; if you do it wrong, you can do a lot of damage.

Matt,

I pop.I have never probed Juvenile Drymarchon to determine their sex, too much potential damage. I have had about a 99% success rate with just popping juvenile drys. However I HAVE made a few mistakes popping OTHER types of snakes(Notably kingsnakes and small colubrids) When breeding boas I tended to probe to determine sex.

When hatchlings first come out I pop them. If it's a male there's no need to ever check again. After supposed females have shed I'm now in the habit of probing them to be sure. Sometimes males that didn't pop are discovered upon probing.
