Did I ruin his sex life?

Kimbits Jan 16, 2006 08:00 PM

I think I may have accidently interrupted my cornsnakes copulating. And I'd really like some experianced breeders to tell me what they think. I didn't start them brumating, but I hear corn snakes will occasionally breed without brumating sometimes. Anyways, I started to remove my female from the enclosure, she was curled up with the male, which is common for them. At the last second, as I was removing her, his tail fell away from hers, it would have been in the right position for their cloaca to be connected. Shocked, I reached to life his tail to see, well, anything I guess, he moved under the substrate very quickly and was buzzing at me, which would be a first for him. I waited awhile and he buzzed at me again.
So, what do you guys think, might his pissiness be blue balls?

thanks
Cheers

I am assuming that you keep them housed all of the time? That is a 1 of the reasons you don't keep them together. They may have been copulating. Males will sometimes be a bit more irratable during the breeding season. You also may have just startled him. But all signs point to breeding.

I thought it might be a risk when I started housing them together, and though unexpected it's not unwelcomed. The offspring will be double het so I shouldn't have too hard a time finding places for them.
Can anyone offer any tips to a first timer?

Cheers
