******** DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHERE TO GET TRUE RED BEARDIES?******

PIMPTURTLE Jan 16, 2006 08:12 PM

I'M LOOKING FOR A REAL BLOOD RED BEARDED DRAGON. I'VE SEEN SO MANY WEBSITES ADVERTISE RED DRAGONS BUT I'D LIKE TO GET SOME FEEDBACK BEFORE BUYING FROM THEM. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO FIND A BREEDER OF RED BEARDED DRAGONS IN ILLINOIS.

I have only seen one dragon I would call true red and a few pictures of other true red dragons, I was frankly, unimpressed (but that’s just me). All the ones I have seen, including the live one, lacked vibrancy in their color. Yes, the majority of the “reds” are various shades of orange. Sometimes I will call ours red-orange but most of the time, I’m too lazy to type it all out and call them reds. Generally speaking, if it is the color of an orange (the kind you eat) we call it an orange; darker than that, we just say it is red or red-orange; from what I have seen, this seems to be the excepted norm. If you want brilliance, you will be dealing with shades of orange. Some red-orange dragons are very deep colored close to red. Because of the brighter colors, the red-oranges are probably bred more than any true reds would be. Breeders’ will bred what is popular, or like us, what we like best. It all comes down to personal preference on a given dragon. Some of us like the brighter colors of the oranges (red-orange), some like pastels, and others might like a true red. Keep looking for what you like and don’t get hung up on names (there are more names out there for the same looking dragon’s it is impossible to keep them all straight).

Thank you for your advice!

first off, you are never going to find a baby or juvie that will show the same colors as when it becomes an adult So buying anything other than an adult based on color is pointless.

I have never seen a red BD. Yes some have shades of red but all the ones I have seen are various shades of orange

they also change color dramatically so it depends on their mood as to what color they will be.
