Safe disinfectants?

Mrez Jan 17, 2006 08:00 AM

Hey everyone, We just got our first fecal exam for our main beardy and the vet came back and told us that like most dragons ours was loaded out with two types of internal parasites. She said not to worry to much because most dragons have em but we need to clean up the infection. So we have the meds and we were told to clean the defication regularly. No problem..except that trying to put all the pieces of his cage back together after cleaning them off and doing a mild bleech sol rinsed with water is becoming a serious headache. Is there any safe spray disinfectants that I can use in the cage itself on the defication spot after I've removed the fecal matter so it doesn;t have to be bleeched and rinsed?

lots of people use Nolvasan (sp?). I on the other hand use diluted (1:10 at most) bleach if i need it.

what are you using for a substrate right now? I would switch to non-stick shelf liner until infection is under control. That way you can totally clean up.

So you can buy one of those empty spray bottles for like $1, put a little bit of bleach in it and then fill it up with water, and use that. Just be sure to take your animal out of the cage and wipe up all the diluted bleach....air it out if needed...and put your little baby back in.

i brew my own beer and have found that at even 2 tablespoons of bleach per gallon of water is an effective disinfectant.
