Super Arabesque?

BOtt Jan 17, 2006 12:41 PM

What is the word on homozygous arabesques? I've done a bit of searching, but I can't seem to find much information. Is the general consensus that the homozygotes are the same (phenotypically) as the hets? Have there been a lot of Arabesque x Arabesque breedings?

I've heard bits about a "saddleless" clutch from an Arabesque x Arabesque breeding (which could be the supers)-does anyone know if pictures from this clutch are posted somewhere? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i am also interested in this subject as i would like to work with the arabesque gene when i am financially able. from what i have been able to find, the arabesque gene is dominent and the homozygous form should be the same phenotype as the heterozygous form. however i have not found anything other then hear say to back up this information. additionally i have never once seen a picture or heard of a homozygous arabesque for sale. i have found very little information about this mutation in general.

Steve Hammond (the originator of the arabesque)produced a litter in either '04 or '05. Some of them had very reduced patterns, but nothing significant to tell the supers. I believe he sold some from this litter as possible supers. It looks like this will turn out to be a dominant trait. However, it may turn out like hypos where you can make a good guess at which are the supers.

bred Arabesque X Arabesque, the only breeding I know of. Some of the Arabesque offspring had reverse stripeing down the majority of their body (saddleless). This may or may not be a difference between Homozygous and Heterozygous Arabesques.

Only time, and more breeding trials, will tell.

i know i didnt make this post but it has helped me with my personal information a good bit. i am very interested in the arabesque gene and did not know of any possible supers. i know this is a bit off topic, but if someone could point me in the right direction to purchase arabesques i would appreciate it (everything i fidn on kingsnake is usually het something).
