Can I house an axolotl and a leopard frog together?

SB Jan 17, 2006 03:26 PM

Hi,
I'm wondering if an axolotl and a leopard frog can be safely housed together in a 40 gal. tank. I plan to have a log adhered to the side of the tank for the frog to climb out on and about 12 inches of water for the axolotl. Any thoughts appreciated...couldn't find any info in the past posts. I know that they are both highly carnivorous, but doesn't seem like they'll see much of each other.

I would avoid it. It's a big tank but still I'd be concerned that you'd find one sticking out of the other's mouth eventually.

Even if axolotl's can regenerate lost limbs, i would not recommend it. Most likely they will have to be seperated.

It is risky, but can be done.
If you go for it, the leopard frog is going to need more than a log and a foot of water. He will prefer an area of only a few inches or less to sit and swim in, as well as a land area and some deeper water
