new goecko owner few questions???

blood21 Jan 17, 2006 08:05 PM

Hi, my name is Richard. I just bought 3 new adult leopard Geckos. 2 female one is normal and chocolate spotted albino. With 1 normal male. I have kept and raised. Argentine black and white tegu, red tail boas, sumatran blood python. So these are prob the easiest for me to care for. Ok here are my questions. This is my first attempt to breed. I have read that u need a winter time period like drop 10 degrees from the normal 85 to 90 degree basking light, with less day time. Then go back to the normal 85 to 90 degrees 12 hr cycle. Then the other one I read they will breed any time as long as they are healthy and plenty of calcium. I would appreciate your opinions and your sucess with breeding. One last question. About albino is there a specific way to make brighter albinos or something to make it darker or just wait to see what they look like when they hatch? Thank you for your reply. Have a great day herp lovers.

I hope you're happy with your leos! I'm no breeder, but i would probably recommend getting used to your leos first, I would rather be a beginner with "normal" leos instead of a pregnant one. I would answer your questions, but I have absolutely no clue, since as I said before, I'm no breeder.
Good Luck With Your Leos!

Cooling down your Leos is not necessary. Very few breeders mess with that process anymore, it just isn't necessary.

As far as producing brighter colored albinos, you incubate at a higher temp, for darker colors incubate at lower temps. Unless your male is het for albino you aren't going to get albinos your first generation. You are only going to get albinos by taking one of the male offspring of the albino female and breeding it back to her.
