Lamiellm Jan 17, 2006 08:35 PM

I rescued a bably albino leopard gecko from a pet store! He looks about 3 or 4 weeks old. So obviously hes eaten before but now they said he wouldnt eat. Ive tried pinheads and now im trying very small mealworms. Any suggestions to get him back on a good diet? He doesnt have barely any fat in his tail! Thanks guys!!!

I just got him today. I have small mealworms in there now but hes not even interested! Ill post pics later tonight probably. I dont know what kind of setup to put him in to optimize his re-conditioning...any suggestions on that?

Since his an albino I would recommend you to feed him in a low light enviroment. Albinos don't enjoy light that much.
Good luck!

give hima couple of days to chill out hes probably stressed out and hell probably start eating unless he's sick or something...id set him up in a 10 gal tank with a small heatpad controlled by a thermostat...90 deg. on the hot side and 80 deg on the cool side...id use papertowels for a substrate... id put a hide right on the heat mat and another 1 on the cool side and a moist hide in the middle or on the hot side(u can use a gladware cont.with a hole cut in the side with damp papertowels).
thats how i would set him up i hope this helps

Sounds good ill try that. I got him in a ten gallon now...paper towel substrate two hiding spots and a tupperware container with a whoe cut in the top with moist paper towels. So no heating light fixture you think just under tank mat?

About 74 degrees farenheit. I have a 4 foot neodesha cage that oI have to transport my bearded dragon into so hell be going in the 10gal tomorrow morning!! I already got all the stuff except two hide spaces. Ill have a Reptisun 5.0 uvb bulb flourescent on him then. I have heat tape i can use for underneath. I used to breed regularly so i have alot of supplies laying around. I just wanan get him into his permanent enviro as quick as possible so he can acclamate.

I agree it will probably take the Leo a couple of days to settle in and start eating. I wouldn't mess with the tiny pinhead crickets, I never had any luck with them, it was like my hatchlings didn't even see them LOL Get some 1/4"-1/3" crickets, those are ideal size for a baby

I've read this about dogs, but it may be the same for leos...
basically, it said never to buy animals (unless they're rescue animals) from a pet store... usually, the pet store doesn't get a great breeder. Maybe they're technically a breeder (you're a breeder when you have a litter/clutch and own the female), but probably not good ones. If you "rescue" an animal from a pet store, you may save one animal but the "breeder" will go "hey, I made some money off that one, I'll keep producing them so I can get more money!" So you'll possibly cause MORE animals pain, the ones that are coming after the one you bought.

Anyways, I don't have that much experience in leos, and I've never had a skinny tailed one. so good luck with advice from other people!
