Lamiellm Jan 17, 2006 08:38 PM

I rescued a small snow orn from a local pet store. Hes very small. They were tryin to feed him crickets and they said he wasnt eating those! I went to another pet store and bought a just born pinky mouse and he doesnt seem to interested in that either. Any suggestions?? I dont wanna see him die! Thanks!

stay with the pinkies. wait a few days and put the snake and the pinky in a deli cup, bag, whatever and try to feed again. i got a male classic that must eat in the dark. whenever he eats i have to put him in pitch black or he will not eat. you may even want to try leaving the pinky inside the snakes cage over night. i would place the pinky where ever the snake spends a lot of time. be patient, all my corns are not picky eaters let the snake settle and then establish a feeding scheule and i'm sure things will be fine.

Tease feeding often works wonders, too. Even if he doesn't strike it, it might get his feeding response activated.

See previous post about finiky eaters. Some of the suggestions was to dip the pinkie in tuna juice, brain the live pinkie(the fluid in the brain is attractive smelling), force feed a frozen pinkie head, force feed an adult mouses tail (a tube going down a tube shaped snake), a frozen/thawed pinkie (maybe the moving pinkie scares the small snake), or making a pinkie bleed(frozen/thawed or alive - the blood will stimulate some snakes, in my experience). I think that covers it. I would suggest reading the other posts. Good luck

But mostly let him settle in for a few days. No stress, no handling. Just check his temps and water. Them put him in his deli cup with his pinkie and leave him in the dark maybe even overnight without disturbing him.

If that doesn't work, then you may have to try some of the tricks. That was the advice I got from a lot of the experienced breeders and so far so good. A couple of my babies took a few tries, but the thing is to wait a couple of days between tries for him to destress.

Good Luck

i would wait a couple days before trying to feed again if you just got the snake. let the snake settle in before you try to fed and the results may be different. i normally won't feed for at least 3 days after getting a snake.
