How common is it to get 48 eggs in a little over a month?

Roy Stockwell Jul 25, 2003 11:04 AM

Hi Folks! I don't visit this forum much, but I have been breeding
western hogs for about 15 years.
This year my big female double clutched producing almost 50 eggs.
I am still in shock...Sure a few were slugs, but most eggs were good
How common is this type of volume? It's the first time I've had this quantity
from one female in such a short period of time.

Here's a pic of the first clutch hatching followed by a pic of both clutches

I would say I am jealous, but the idea of having to get 40 baby westerns on pinks is not really that appealing to me!

Congrats, and good luck!

It's only recently that I've heard about people having westerns
that are trouble feeders, I thought it was only easterns that were the trouble.
It must depend on the bloodline.
Mine always eat, in fact some eat before they are a week old
and before the first shed...
Like this one that is only 5 days old
