Question about blood smears.

tribalretics Jan 18, 2006 04:17 AM

I put my male and female retics together to breed awhile back. The day after I went down to check on them and there was slight smears of what looked like blood. Pinkish/red color smears all over. Could this be from them mating? I have not seen them locked up together yet but they are always inter-tangled when I go down there. I bunch of times I seen there tails twisted together but where their cloacas were always under their coils. Just wondering if that was a sure sign that they have been breeding. Any thought would be great. Thanks

i would be willing to say that the smaeared blood is from one of the snakes mouth (lip or teeth). maybe one of them got a little antsy or something, and broke off a tooth?

to me it sounds like a flesh wound... unless the female was a virgin lol!

just kidding i dont think female snakes carry a hymen(sp?).

Funny you should say that, she is a virgin. LOL
There are no marks on either of them. They seem to get along fine. One person I talked to said blood smears can come from the female opening up her vent to entice the male. Or when they are mating and the male hemipenis is out can make marks on the paper. Has anyone seen this before?
