Rolling

hogdaze Jan 18, 2006 12:36 PM

I fed my 04 female western hog last night and she did something that I have not seen before. She grabbed the fuzzy and started rolling around. The only thing I can equate it with is a croc death roll. She continued doing this for about 3 minuted, all the while holding onto the fuzzy. She then stopped and proceeded to eat the mouse. Is this normal? I have had her for more than a year and never witnessed it before.

This is new to me, I haven't seen it in other NA native colubrids, so I wonder how common it is. I am assuming the fuzzy was live? I appreciate you posting this information, has anyone else seen it in hogs?

One of my W.hogs did this once but I didn't think much of it. One of my friends described this of wc hogs she has owned when feeding them frogs. But I can't tell you this is a common thing. Like I said I've seen it only one time in my hogs about 2-3 years ago and didn't last more than a few seconds.

I guess it kind of makes since...frogs have powerful legs. If you ( hognose ) grab one and then roll it over it can't struggle as much while the venom takes affect....just a thought!!

Yes it was a live fuzzy. I wish that I'd caught it on film. I will keep my digital camera near from now on in case she does it again.
