Snake track???

shadowman_1_ca Jan 18, 2006 01:09 PM

I was Hiking in Southern Alberta a few years ago in search of Horned Lizrds and came across what seemed to be a snake track along the banks of the Milk River. It's not a great photo but it has been kicking around my office with the intent of posting it and getting expert opinions so here it is. Of course I've been fooled before thinking a track was that of a snake or a lizard only to see an insect or something making the very track the next morning. So I've decided to use a lifeline and ask the audience, "Should I put my $$$ on snake track?"

Hmmmmm. I'm not sure. It almost looks like a dried water-runoff area or something. The varying width of the track, the irregular pattern, the straight section (which would imply that the snake moved only with its ventral scales, which seems unlikely) and the weird "fork" in the middle make me think that this is not a snake track. Just my humble opinion.
