Martin County rescuers spent more than 30 minutes trying to revive a dog pulled from an apartment fire at Willoughby Cove Tuesday afternoon, but their efforts failed.
"I did everything I could," Martin County Fire Rescue Lt. Chris Zambello told the grieving owners after he was forced to admit defeat.
The dog, a cat and a pet snake died in the blaze that started in a bedroom of the second-floor apartment and gutted the unit.
No one was home at the time of the fire, which investigators said started from the light in an aquarium used to house the snake.
