Bugs in my substrate

spottedturtleman Jan 18, 2006 06:05 PM

I have a c.b. Spider tortoise thta I keep on a mulch substrate that I purchase in a pet store. There are little white bug in the substrate. They are VERY small, smaller than the period on you keyboard. Any ideas what they might be?

They are most probably springtails and harmless. They like moisture and can often be found in indoor flowerpots as well.
Baking your substrate before using it should help to get rid of them initially, but they still might get into it eventually from outside.
