Chicken as food for Burm?

kilhd Jan 19, 2006 07:44 AM

Hello.. I have a local rabbit/chicken breeder where I am and I was thinking of trying to get my burm on chickens as they are cheaper for me. $2 each as opposed to $10 for rabbits. Are there any reasons NOT to feed chickens? I could feed live or pre-killed. If it would be better to stick to jumbo rats, or small rabbits I could do that as well just wondering about the chicken. Thanks for reading! : )

Keep in mind that live chickens, or uncooked chicken is a major vector for salmonella.
I agree with the previous post. Feed a rabbit every now and then.
Chickens would be best reserved for the pickiest of eaters.

Thanks for info guys.. Think I will stick to Jumbo rats for a while then move over to rabbits. This one is by no means a picky eater. hehe

When I had Burms years ago, I did feed chickes, as I occassionally do for my Olives, BUT, they are messy, noisy, not as much bulk, and in general, a pain in the butt. Salmonella can be picked up from most anything, including rabbits. Even eggs at the store.

Had a large Burm one time constrict a chicken so hard it squeezed an egg out (softshelled) which bounced and rolled across the floor. I laughed so hard (chicken's butt was pointed up) I almost wet myself
