Harem Breeding Boas?

InletExotics Jan 19, 2006 07:31 PM

I have heard from some people that it is OK to harem breed boas much like you would many colubrids and pythons. Yet others have told me to the contrary. I was wondering what the potential was in actually harem breeding boas is?

I ask this because I have 1.2 adult hypos. The male is breeding one of the females a lot and the other female is ready to go and I was wondering if I could take the male from the first female and put with the other? Also, could this affect whether or not the first female would become gravid? Thanks

Jeremy

If I were you , I would leave him with the first female until he just isn't interested anymore. Then you could add the other female to the cage(if it is large enough to accomodate the trio). That way, he could breed with female number 2, and if for some reason he needs to go do some "touch up work" on number one, she is still in the cage and he will know what to do.
I tried this with 3 females and a male this year, and am awaiting the results. I just added a female as the male lost interest in the previous girl.He went back to each of them at different times, and there were periods when none of them were receptive. There never seemed to be any overlap. If he was on one of them, the others were chillin in the corners. All three seem to be taken care of, and the first litter should be around the end of February.
