i saw a classified ad on this site for some sort of venomous snake that was "scaleless" and alot of money. how can a snake be scaleless? or is it more common than i think? im very curious... the skin looked the texture of felt.

I haven't seen the ad, but I have seen pictures of scaleless snakes. They have turned up in a few species of snakes. They look to me as if the entire body is covered with skin like the skin between the scales of normal snakes. My guess is that the cause is a recessive mutant gene, but I don't know whether anyone has tried to breed them yet. In my opinion, any value is due to rarity and oddness, like a two-headed snake.

It was a puff adder..Very cool looking but spendy.
There was a scaleless gopher snake for sale awhile back that was pretty interesting also. I emailed the owner of the snake to find out if the gopher snake still shed like normal and he said that it did.
