Substrate question............

snake26 Jan 20, 2006 12:56 AM

I saw someone post some pictures of a boa on what appeared to be alfalfa or Timothy hay. It provided a good contrast for the pictures which is maybe why they used it. Anyway, would this be something good to keep boas on all the time? It smells good and the boas might like it better than newspaper. Any pros, cons, or opinions? Thanks

Now, I don't know for sure but you'd have to check with the hay supplier. Some are laced with rodenticides (if the snake ingested this I don't know what would happed), and some are sprayed with just simple pesticides.
Dust would be another concern I would have but once again I only know that people have allergies to these dusts. If you were to switch I'd keep close eye on how the snake may react. I'd suggest talking to a good small animal vet or equine vet to find out what may be in the hay.
