Pygmy chameleon

dianedfisher Jan 20, 2006 11:18 AM

Hi, guys. I have built a new home for Thraxxis and will now have his 1st home available. Does anyone know where I can find a pygmy chameleon? I did a websearch and really didn't find anything. Someone breeds rieppeleon brevicaudatus that's associated with one of the chameleon care sites. Anyone know who? Thanks in advance for your help. Diane

Hi Dianne,

roo wrote a great article on Rieppeleon brevicaudatus for chameleon news. In it she list some sources of these. She also did an article on building their habitat in the June issue.

I had a trio of Rhampholeon brevicaudatus and thinking of getting more next summer. They are fun little critters, but difficult if they have any health issues (and few vets ever see them).

Ahhhhhhhhahahahahahaha!

I like to think that I’m in touch with feminine side, but not that much. I be a guy lele. You’re the second person to assume that I was a woman. I’m not really sure how to process that right now. Thanks for the nice compliment on the care sheet.

You can get some F1 juveniles from my breeding groups at www.wildeyereptiles.com.

HA! I never make that assumption - made a whopper mistake once that sort of got someone ticked off (that was HIS problem) in my early internet days so I NEVER assume!! I asked Chris A. and I was sure he said you are a girl! SO SORRY!! Now I have to make that change in my mind's eye and turn you into a guy! lol! I'm going to look for that email from Chris!!

Believe it or not there have been 2 or 3 times that I have been referred to as a guy here - now lele just doesn't sound "guy-like" to me ;-/

Oh guys (and gals) LOL THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Lele, the link you gave me was fantastic!
Roo, you are so thorough-I don't believe I'll need anything else to help me care for a pair of these little guys except your most excellent article. The do have breeding pairs at wildeyed reptiles and as soon as I get a set-up established I'll be ordering one.
Again, many thanks, Diane

Well if Chris truly said I was a she then he is in some trouble. Thanks all for the nice compliments and my group’s babies are really diverse. I seem to get a good mix of different colors. Here is a pic of an F1 male juvenile around 3 months old. Notice the lichen/moss pattern he is displaying among the palm leaves. Almost a mint-chocolate look to him.

I can't wait to get mine. I purchased a tank today and ordered some cork panels from the corkstore and a whole bunch of stuff from blackjungle. I'm taking my mother to Fort Myers in a week and I hope I can get the tank set-up before I go to let it settle in before I order my pygmys. I went with a 20 gallon tank which is 17" tall and I'll just get 1 pair and see how it goes. With Roo's step by step set-up sheet and his excellent care sheet even an idiot like me can create the perfect environment. Thanks to you all! Diane

Don’t feel that you need to go step by step with the enclosure article. It’s just for ideas and I encourage people to try new things. One thing I highly suggest is at least one drainage layer – just in case you over water some. Good luck.

I ordered the LECA from blackjungle. I had never heard of it and it seems like an interesting item. My Chinese Water Dragons require habitats very similar to these little guys. diane
