It would be best to do complete water changes. Make sure you are cleaning out the filters regularly as well, because if they start getting full, they decrease in suction and pumping power. As a quick fix, you can take like a small goldfish net and scoop some of the big stuff up if you catch it early enough. But once it starts breaking down and filling the bottom, and the water starts getting tainted as a result, then I would recommend doing a full water change. I clean my filters and change water weekly or bi-weekly at minimum, depending on how the water looks.
Hope that helps,
Chris
>>I own a baby alligator whom I keep in a 125 gallon tank. I have no gravel or anything on the bottom of the tank, it's just filled with water and has no substrate such as gravel. So now I have feces all over the bottom glass sinking to it. My gator is walking all over this mess and I hate to see that. I have two filters in there, but they dont filter out most of it. My question is: How do you guys clean that or avoid that mess? Any substrate I shall use on the bottom?

>>I thought the less decoartions you use, the easier it is to clean the tank, but it turns out it is full of visible crap just floating around the bottom. Nasty
