Pentax Optio WP 5MP Waterproof Digital Camera

Colchicine Jan 20, 2006 01:11 PM

I had a field visit today with someone from the Army Corp of Engineers. They recently all got issued this Pentax waterproof camera (lucky b's!). I thought I would pass this along since it is really the only waterproof p&s out there. The neat thing I noticed about it was that it appears to have a fixed lens (=no optical zoom), however, the lens moves INSIDE the camera to give you a 3x optical zoom. Some of the reviewers on Amazon stated it wasn't a high quality camera, but it's definitely something to consider for herping.

Hi guys,
The Pentax Optio WPi is out with the 6 mpx version. It is AWESOME, and is the camera that I used on the Osa, in Costa Rica last month. Kory my friend, I told you about it! LOL! Man, and I have the 70's to blame.

This camera held up in the roughest conditions, sand, humidity, rain storm, mud....salt water....see underwater pix etc. I was really impressed. With the long life batteries, I think I recharged 3X? Yea, the zoom is encased. I was taking some pictures that were just blowing people away. Recharge time is great, speed of turn-on is quick. Only down side I see is the friggin' thing is TINY.

Absolutly amazing. I had an uncle who lived down there. Unfortunatly he is no longer with uis but he would always send pictures of lizards on the beach and bring vidios when ever he came to visit. I would love to travel down there but last I check I think he payed somwhere around $700 for round trip plane tickets and that is just not in the budget right now. I dont know about you but it would be awfull hard for me not to stash one or 2 of those lizards or snakes in my bags and bring them back lol
