Interesting... the one we found in Peru was so docile that I assumed they must be all be like that.

Agreed - I have yet to see an Oxyrhopus try to bite anyone - and I have caught a fair few. Reluctance to bite seems to be a general attribute of the group that Oxyrhopus belongs to, the Pseudoboini, which also include Clelia, Pseudoboa, Siphlophis, Phimophis and a few others.
