pooping during brumation

bmulcahy Jan 20, 2006 10:22 PM

I am brumating 6 of the corn snakes from my class this year for the first time. The snakes are 2 1/2 years old. I stopped feeding in the beginning of November and waited four weeks to lower the temps. I dropped the temps over 10 days and they have been in my basement since then ( about six weeks). I check on them every day or two to make sure they aren't that active and make sure they have water. Tonight I noticed what looked like a poop stain in one of the containers. It doesn't look like there is a lot of substance to the stain. What should I do? Should I slowly raise the temps on this snake and bring him out of brumation? Should I be worried? This is all new to me.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Brian

Brian,

You might be surprised how much that happens. I have had snakes brumate for 10-12 weeks and poop after coming up from brumation. Good question!

Thanks for the advice! I just knew their stomachs should be empty before brumation and wondered if I messed up.

Thanks again!
