Would it be safe to use a zoo-med repti-therm UTH on a boaphile cage???? more..............

I was just wondering if it would be safe to put one of these on the back of a boaphile cage, not on the bottom. I don't want to trap that much heat underneath it. Does anyone out there do this? Is it safe? I read that boaphile cages are insanely flame resistant. Thanks in advance.........venomousdave.

I think it would be ok where ever you put it, as long as you use a thermostat. I use spacers under my tanks to lift them up to allow air flow under them. I'm no expert, but I'm not sure if putting it on the back of a cage will provide enough heat by itself. Derek

not familiar with the UTH you are planning to use, but can offer some information.

I would imagine it is similar to Flex-Watt, which is what Jeff uses.
I have one Boaphile with heat instaled (inside), this is sandwiched between the bottom of the cage and another piece of plastic. Jeff has done this for years, and scores of people, without problems.
All of my other Boaphiles have flexwatt instaled underneath, and since they are stacked, it is directly on top of the cage below. This actually works as an insulator, and is perfectly fine. I would not worry about putting it under you cage and would actually recommend it. If it was attached to the back, it would have a lot of difficulty properly heating your cage. Belly heat is necessary.

Also, please use a proportional thermostat!
