Some tank questions!

rhacsandacks Jan 21, 2006 10:37 AM

My turtle tank is a large rubbermaid, I think 50 gallons of so and about 4 feet long. It houses two yearling RES in it. I am having problems because it is such a pain to fill up with the hose, and then it evaporates in a week. Also, because of the UVB lamp, all this algea grows and it is like a green velvety cover over the sides. any ideas.

I hope the pic works

Evaporation is going to happen no matter what you house them in, its worse in winter (at least here) than summer. For the algae, I used to just drain it and scrub it out once a week. If you have better filtration that will help some with the algae. I found putting a Poly Filter pad into the filter to be very helpful when I had my aquatic turts.
