my cham's poop has a mucusy milky film on his poop. ive known this for a few days now, but im curious as to what it is. could you help me out? thanks.
my chams poop look strange. it has a milky, mucusy film on it, and i can see crix in it, partailly digested. what could be wrong? also, ive noticed a change in his appearance. his tail looks kinda boney. it didnt look like that when i got him, and ive only had him for a week. the spine is also boney. hes 6 months old, and im worried he might have MBD. what are the symptoms? i know its a bone disease, or is he just skinny? ive been feeding him everyday, hes been eating, and i thought he was doing fine. tail is kind of crooked too. HELP!
Hi-
Is it the urate in the feces? What are you feeding? How often are you dusting the food? When you feed adult crickets you may find the exo skeleton of the crickets head and limbs.
(from REPLAYS website)
Metabolic bone disease (MBD). A softening of bones caused by a low ratio of Calcium
hosphorus. It may be caused by any number of factors but the most common in chameleons include inadequate nutrition, inadequate vitamin D3 and inadequate UVB lighting (which is necessary for vitamin D3 production).
Hope this helps!

i dust the crix 2 or 3 times a week. he eats well. i have UVA bulbs, is that different from UVB? (health wise, which one is better) and its the dark part of the poop that looks strange (scientific names? urate, etc) and i feed him crix and mealworms. how do i get him to eat veggies? thanks.
Hi-
Yes UVA and UVB are different. You need to a Zoomed UVB 5.0 fluorescent bulb or a Mercury Vapor bulb like zoomed Powersun 100w (heat& UVB&UVA all in one) NOW in the mean time try and expose him to unfiltered natural sunlight outside. Urate is the white/orange/colored part of the feces. Feed silkworms or crickets as the staple diet every day use mealworms only as treats one or two a day at the most. Some veileds eat veggies and some don't, you can cut small pieces up and put them in bowl with the crickets. Hope this helps!

thanks for your help.
I agree with what charm said. About the sunlight thing, this will make a HUGE difference!! If you can get him into a small bird cage, or on a plant outside for a few hours a day it will help. Just make sure you keep a close eye, so a bird doesn't take off with him!
If you can't get him right outside, you can look for a window in your house that gets full sun. Open the glass and put a plant near the screen, and let him chill out there for a few hours. I did this with Orion while I was home for a few hours every day. If it is in a safe place you can just check him every 15 min or so. This way he gets his sun, but you can still do the everyday things you need to do.
Also, how old is your veild?
i noticed my cham poop looked ok .. so i decided to take some out, and saturate it in water, then let it dry, and i found that it drys with the white film on it ... probably just really wet, then dried quickly
