Rehabbing a Guyana

Nate83 Jan 21, 2006 02:32 PM

Hello All,

I have a "friend" who has a 6 ft. Guyana who he's offered to me because he can't care for it anymore. This poor snake has not eaten in 4 months. Is kept at room temperature in a small rubbermaid with no ventilation and no substrate, no water, and sitting in it's own feces. I would like to take the snake, but I'm wondering what it's going to take to get this thing healthy. I don't have room for another large cage either but I don't want this beautiful creature to die. I've only had Columbians before and I was wondering if the care is much different? Higher heat and humidity?????? Thanks for any help.

not much difference from BCI, so if you have the experience with them you should be fine. the only real differnce is that BCC seem to be a little more picky with meal sizes (dont feed to large of a prey item). if the snake does not have any other medical problems, then a few months in a proper setup should bring em back to health. it is probably not eating because it is way to cold and metabolism has drastically slowed. the only problem i see you having is that you say you dont have room for a large cage. the snake will require a large enclosure. i would suggest first getting it out of the current conditions and into the larges size cage you can offer (with proper conditions). then attempting to find it a good home with someone who can provide a large enough cage.
if you are located in pa, send me an email as i might be able to find you a home for the poor guy.
good luck and good job for doing something about things.

Thanks for the advice. The most I could muster for him would be 4'x3' and only 16" high. I'll probably take him and try to get him healthy but the RI and Stomatitis combo scare me. I'm in NM so PA is a little far, but If get him healthy and ready to rehome I'll let you know.
