egg eating milksnake

billysbrown Jan 21, 2006 02:48 PM

Hello,

I had until recently (gave it away) a pueblan milk that seemed to enjoy quail eggs from time to time. It was interesting to watch her swallow them - she would start to swallow, it would slip out. She would start again, and it would slip out again, and so on until she got it braced against a coil or wall of the cage. A few times she seemed to strain with the egg a couple inches down and the egg seemed to crack (a pop noise and the bulge would flatten out), but most of the time it seemed to remain whole until she digested it.

Cheers,
Billy

yeah nice pics and story-check out the chapter carl kauffeld wrote(i think it's in 'snakes-the keeper and the kept') about a captive bullsnake doing the same, with chicken eggs-classic kauffeld, vivid description of the details.
