Other than calling any way to sex green treefrogs?

Juile Jan 21, 2006 04:56 PM

Hi
I am interested in Green treefrogs. Pet store I go to carries them . I have no idea if possible to sex them by looking at them. I have looked for info but found none.
I would like 1 male and 2 females . These are adult treefrogs he has for sale but to me they look all the same.
Anyone know how to sex them by looking at them, etc?
I know with greens calling is the best way but when I go there its day time and no one is calling and even if one did call I wouldnt know how to tell which are females.
any input is great.

Thanks

Sometimes but not always males will have a gray colored chin or throat area. Females tend to look plump compared to males which look slender.

Thanks thats good enough considering no real fool proof way. I am going there this Sunday my tank is set up.
Going to try my best to sex them that way. Worse case I get 3 males or 3 females or I might get lucky and get 2 of one 1 of the other. I will look at the throat skin and try to pick different body types if that doesnt pan out.
If I get both sexes and they breed you can have pick of the litter heehee. But not more than 50 lol.
Thanks again.

This information in part of my reply to the barking tree frog message. Thanks for the info btw.

Females are larger, at around 2-2.5 inches, while males average around 1 inch. On a reptile magazine it says that the skin on the throat is another difference between sexes. The skin on males is more loose and wrinkly. The female's is tighter and smoother. But for this you would need be able to pick up several of them to see this and tell the difference.
