WEEK IN REVIEW

carl3 Jan 21, 2006 05:52 PM

WEEK IN REVIEW:
I thought it might be fun to do a ‘week in review’ for the boa forum, similar to Tosha’s week in review in the BP Forum. Not sure if anyone even cares but I thought it might be cool to try, especially since I’m sick and don’t feel like doing much at the moment. Now, I tried to make light of some posts so do not get upset or offended if I poke fun at you. Its all meant to be in good taste. Also, please correct me know if I linked a thread or a name wrong. I may have also forgotten some people (sorry in advance). I also held back on re-posting pics so I wouldn't offend anyone but I'll try to link them.

THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN 2006:
SNOGLOWS!
more Posts titled: “Is this a Jungle?” (the debate continues)
A true albino BCC
Super Arabasque Thread: by Brian Ott
some amazing pics in this thread.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:
Tsusnakeguy post stirs talk of ethics, capitalism, reptile economics and more

This thread also offers a great QUOTE OF THE WEEK by Tsusnakeguy:
"please if you have a snake no matter what type, enjoy it for what it is, not what it can do for you and how you can make money off it"

Rescued boas usually equal bad news and require lots of time, including a trip to the vet.

TIP OF THE WEEK:: Dave at Rainbows-R-Us: Don’t put your spouse or kids in your signature profile along with your reptiles….we don't know how happy they'd be to see that 3 snakes, 50 rats and 7 hamsters are higher on the list than they are. LoL. This leads me to wonder, Does anyone else have a spouse that looks over their shoulders while your online to make sure you are NOT buying yet another reptile?

Is inbreeding okay? apparently it’s okay to inbreed in the south. Hey southerners, don’t get too excited…bthacker was talking about BOAS…not people. Lol

Does anyone really have to ask what thoughts are on T Positive albinos? They’re simply awesome! It was nice to see the amazing pics posted by Tom Burke, LindaH and others. Tpositive post

Is it suriname or surinam?
Yawn….j/k…they are awesome-looking boas, I doubt anyone will care about the e BUT just don’t add that extra g onto Hog.lol

dmac proves you can still find a good deal every now and then that is “too good to be true”, when he finds a 5.2 cu ft. freezer for fifty bucks. The magic 8ball says: “Lookout Mrs. dmac, his collection will soon grow”

What is the difference between a hypo, normal and super hypo?
ExecutiveReptiles gives a very nice explanation with photos too…check it out:

Hog Island X Argentine. Does anyone else worry about what will be hybridized next? It’s probably just me.

What are follicles?
ChristianC Thanks for asking what a lot of us wonder but are maybe too afraid to ask. And thanks to Bryan Brown for taking the time to answer.

Purple Pic 05 Columbian
bigbarret85, I’d move away from the high-power lines IF your boa really looks that purple.lol

Mike’s (kitchi) post Do you prefer LIGHT meat or DARK meat?
anyone else craving turkey?

I’m with pythonis, I’m not quite sure what to make of this post Hog Island Boa Feces with a picture attached? It’s ok Derek, no one will harass you…it did make people smile though.lol

LONGEST THREAD OF THE WEEK:

Chiracer1’s thread about how to spend $4000 is the winner this week. Some say Jungles, some say Sharp Albinos. Bcijoe says to buy PCP (it’s a joke). Pythois says go for a bridge he is selling (fyi…he may actually have a bridge for sale…better check the classifieds)hmmm…if I had $4000….hmmm…..anyone else jealous? Chiracer1, please contact me for adoption…please

Photos of the week:
mike_panic Burke Sunglow, Hypo het Albino, and a cool female that’s anything but normal….WOW

Ms. Peaks LIVES!
Nice Peaks Mike!

Celia Chien’s collection photos….Hard to beat!

David Beauchemin, High End Herps.Inc holdback 03 Sunkist Orange Line female…we hope she produces some nice babies too!

Ron (RON745) proves that boas ARE better than a brazilian wax. (I’ve never had either so I don’t know but I now want one….of his boas that is)

Kelly Haller’s 12 ft Anaconda out for a quick photo

Eddie Kim’s collection photos
…very nice stuff. By the way Ed, you’re not the only one who plays around with the dry ice from the frozen rodent shipments.lol

Ron Michelotti, Class Reptilia’s Sharp Sunglow
….WOW

Ed Lilley’s Orange Kling line of Pure hogs….AMAZING!

THINGS THAT SUCK:
we can all agree that mitessuck. Best wishes Scott/SpectreBCIs. Keep everyone posted on your efforts to get rid of these nasty little bugs. Please let us know if you go with bigdnutz suggestion on using vegetable oil. (another store-bought product used for reptiles). I have heard of this before, but not really sure if I’d try it. Good news is maybe you’ll have enough left over to bake a cake. Over the years, its amazing how intuitive we can sometimes be at finding alternative uses for things bought at places like Home Depot, Walmart or the grocery store.

Other solutions, Provent-a-mite, Pest strips, Repti-relief, something about virgins and olive oil, oh…and using a temporary container with a smooth surface to house your snake so the mites cannot hide in the grains of a wooden enclosure.

Joe’s (Deadlyjoker) posts, which include the following titles:
Weightloss in boas
Deworming
Injection site
Runny poo
Sounds like you’ve got some work ahead….best wishes and keep us posted.

Hey that was very informative and entertaining. What you did was a great idea. Did you finish your snake room from awhile back? If you did, I missed your post. Can you re-post some pics of your room? That is if you posted already. Thank you, Derek

Im glad I asked for the suri pics, i saw alot of beautiful snakes, however, I am a little upset because I posted a rant of my own titled whats the deal, it was about people charging astronomical prices for snakes that may or may not be worth much at all and all the hype with morphs and hets, it got interesting with about 20 or so replies , was a little heated at times, but informative, but to my suprize , almost the entire thread with the exception of the last 2 post's were deleted? for content maybe? no I actually dont know why it was deleted but any way thanks for your hard work and effort, there needs to be more people out here who dedicted to the information aspect, of the hobby, not just posting pices of their snakes that they had to take out a home equity line of credit to buy. Or people asking to identify their snake and post a pic of a sunglow or striped albino, just for attention, very informative.

PanamaRed Jan 22, 2006 05:13 PM

Nice to put it all in a nutshell like that. The threads can be confusing on here sometimes..
