Betadine Solution,

beccadvorak Jul 25, 2003 01:52 PM

Hi all,

I have a softshell with a slight infection on his nose. I went out and bought a Betadine solution (povidone-iodine, 10%) from the local pharmacy and am wondering if this is good to use on this. Should I dilute it first, and then by how much?

Thanks,

Becca

O(K to use full strength (leave it dry for a few hours afterwards) but better for a local superficial infection is triple antibiotic ointment (also sold under trade name Neosporin). This will remain on underwater for a long time and has true antibiotics rather than just antiseptics in it.

dab the affected area with a cotton bud or swab, leave it to dry and put the softshell back into the tank. Take care not to get the solution in their eyes. I'd recommend to put some aquarium salt in the tank too.
