Reluctant Feeder now eats........

stevenunez Jan 21, 2006 08:09 PM

Well my difficult to feed dumerils is finally feeding. A more experienced snake breeder/enthusiast friend got him feeding on live mice- as he simply refuses F/T at the moment. He strikes at dangled f/t but wont actually eat them.

Here's a shot of him eating today a live small mouse......so far he's doing well and I'm quite pleased.

It seems juvenile dumeril's prefer live prey- so until he accepts a f/t mouse- it'll be live!

i think that is the norm with Dumerils. mine will flatr out refuse f/t but has no qualms with live. however he does tend to get a bad "wrap" sometimes and i have to save his hide.

Have you ever tried P/K? I have a 05 female dumerils and she won't touch live or F/T. Try P/K that may work and you don't have to worry about the snake getting bitten by the mouse.

P/K = pre-killed? Not sure what it means.
