Black blood genetic Q's

Kujo Jan 22, 2006 02:04 PM

I am interested in breeding my black blood, but know nothing about the genetics. Is the black blood trait dominant, recessive, co-dom, or what? My friend would like to use him, but we need a litle more info first. Could anyone give me a little info?

Black bloods (more correctly called Sumatran Short-Tailed Pythons) are a separate species (Python curtus) from Red Bloods (Python brongersmai) and Borneos (Python breitensteini), NOT a color morph. You can breed a Black blood with either of these, but it will be a hybrid of the two species. Best thing in my opinion would be to get another black if you want to breed it. But I'm not a hybrid fan, some people are....

Thanks Angel-
That picture is actually from a little while ago, he's grown a bit since then. I've never seen an appetite on a snake like on those two. Get a rat anywhere near them and it's gone in seconds. Makes feeding time go quickly though...lol. Here's a recent shot of the girl for good measure.

Hey,
She's looking sweet too. Awesome job! Can't wait to see them all grown up.
