turtles and crocodilians..

sk8r009 Jan 22, 2006 02:40 PM

this is a question for you experienced keepers. do you think keeping a caiman/gator/croc with turtles can increase aggression? for instance, will they view the turtle as a competitor for food, and adopt a more aggressive attitude? im talk appropriatly sized turtles of course, as most crocs will eat small enough turtles.

thanks!

I have seen where turtles have bitten chunks off a caimans tail when kept together.

I wouldn't recommend it....ive seen it go both ways. ive seen crocodilians both chomp on turtles and ive also seen turtles cause major stress to crocodilians by nipping at them...and fighting for food can be a big deal to...ive seen an alligator bite off a turtles head for going at his food...but than again ive seen both live fine with eatchother in larger enclosures.
