No water dish? Is this good information?

Andystorts Jan 22, 2006 02:41 PM

I bought a niger uro today, the orange on this guy is amazing, i was told, they don't need a water dish because they consume all water through the greens they eat? i soaked him/her today when i got home, what's a good starter food to at least get them feeding? thanks

Andy

i don't keep water dishes in any of my tanks. they do get alot of water from their greens. every once in a while i will over them water with a syringe or if they smear poop all over themselves, they will drink some water when i give them a bath. soaking him today though was good, if he was a wild caught, only god knows what he has been through.

some say the water bowls can raise the humidity of the tanks or that they can spill it and get it in their tails and get tail rot (so always be sure to dry their tails well after a bath)

a really good care sheet is on deerfernfarms.com

A blow-dryer works very well for drying the tail. I have soaked both of my lizards occasionally (if they needed it) and have never had a problem with tail rot or any kind of fungal growth on the tail with blow-drying.
