...yeah bob that's interesting, good point...i've never seen that classification before...as far as i knew,it was moved to specific status i think within the past 5-10 years,as you probably knew already, from a subspecies of the northen pine;but never heard or seen it as a catenifer subspecies.maybe it's a misprint(?)...btw check out this amel. fla pine i just got-been looking for a male like this since about '02,lol...
Great looking snake, Justin, best of luck with him.

I like that book for its summary of the literature on each species but there is some really strange things in there too. I also noticed how he placed the La pine in with catenifer and I have yet to see this elsewhere. I am sure no scientist but I have a hard time accepting ruthveni as a catenifer. For that matter I feel the same way about sayi.
A few other notable oddities about the book involved some of the locality descriptions on some of the photographs. For example the western ribbon snake was said to be from Madison county Ky (does not live in that part of the state). The corn snake is said to be a Ky specimen though it is actually a Florida locale. Its one of Roger Barbours pics and and I know of someone that was with him when he photographed that snake that was able to tell me the circumstances surrounding it. And best of all the photo of the eastern coachwhip is labled as a Ky specimen even though the only Masticophis in Ky are several escapee's that were found years ago from a roadside reptile zoo. Phil
