Kingsnake food....well, not really........

crimsonking Jan 22, 2006 05:17 PM

....I have had these guys for scenting purposes and when I went out to my shed I noticed them all in this pose. I just couldn't resist a pic even through the very dingy aquarium glass.
Do any of you use other snakes for scenting problem feeders?
There, it's on topic now, huh?

Racers are way cool. They can be far more fun then kingsnakes. Cheers

I don't think these guys have a curious bone in their bodies.

Yup, this year I scented a lot...well at least 5 snakes more readily attacked and ate corn snake scented pinkies and they happen to be snakes I hope grow up in a hurry. All now take unscented, but 2 insist on live. They were all Goini or Blaze Phaze Goini X Hypo Brooksi. I freeze a non feeding Corn and cut it into small segments. I thaw em as needed and smear some goo on the mice and they take it right away. As I experimented with scenting less and less they would still eat....that is in the beginning. However if I did not scent much they would only eat 1 or 2 pinkies but if I did scent would take 3 to 5. So.....I chose to scent. I love the racer pic. Pits sometimes do that inquisitive "what's goin on out there?" look too... Tom Stevens

These s. black racers get brown anoles to keep them going, Bob.
I can most likely get them to live pinks as well if I really wanted to since they are so inquisitive.

Great periscope picture Mark!

I had an occipitolineata hatchling (S FL mole) this year that wouldn't take anything I tried, dead or alive. About the time I was getting really desperate I found a clutch of ringneck eggs. I hatched them out and he couldn't resist those little black and orange worms. Once he got started he switched over to eating anything as long as it's moving.

??? Is he ill?? lol.
You're right about the movement thing Lindsay. They sure are apt to take a look if it's moving.

Wasn't paying much attention to this thread.

Nice pic. I happen to like Mole Kings more than Southern Ringnecks lol...
