Breeders feeding f/t poll...

SnakeSmith Jan 22, 2006 06:55 PM

Hey Everyone,
I was just wondering how many of you are trying to maintain a breeding group of balls on f/t? Has anyone had luck with keeping them feeding on f/t beyond a year or two? The reason I ask is my group or atleast some of them seem to be less interested in feeding on f/t after the first year or so. I realize growth (and therefor appetite) is huge during the first year and this time of year is their normal fasting time, but I am curious whether or not you guys and gals have had luck long-term feeding f/t?
Thanks again,
Glenn

There was a post about this awhile back...

Yes, some breeders feed all of their snakes f/t, even the old ones. As a snake matures, it doesn't need to feed as often as a young one. And an adult ball can get along quite nicely eating only once or twice a month when it is simply maintaining its weight. But more likely she will fast for a month or two, then eat a few times, then fast...

I feed live, but small (ave. about 50 grams) rats. Someone feeding f/t can feed a much, much bigger rat. A 200 gram rat has a similar food value to a month's worth of feeding for my snakes.
