xxradxx Jan 22, 2006 08:46 PM

I have A dragon that has been going down hill since I bought him about 2 months ago. His brother has almost doubled in size, while he has only LOST weight )-: I am taking him to a vet this week to check for parasites, but I want to start giving him wax worms to fatten him up. How manny wax worms can I feed him at one time, or each day withought damaging his liver or kidneys ??? He is about 5-6 months old (my best guess) and only slightly larger than when I got him @3-4 months old (guess again.
THANKS FOR ANY HELP !!!
Alex

For nursing a sick dragon, you really don't have to worry about liver or kidney problems by feeding waxworms. Just don't go insane in the amounts you offer. But make sure he doesn't eat too much at one sitting as he may eat too much and be sick. Offer him 2-4 waxworms per meal, if he eats that many. Also over small silkworms, small recently molted superworms, young crickets, etc. Also offer some no fat unsweetened fruit yogurt, to help stimulate his appetite and balance his gutt flora, especpially if it does turn out to be parasites causing the problem. (this won't get rid of the parasites, but will help get him to eat).

If he is really lathargic and not interested in eating anything that moves, you can try offering the yogurt, pureed carrots or squash, chicken babyfood and other soft foods to get him to lap it up. WOrse comes to worse you can make a more liquid form of the above and feed him with a needleless syrenge.
