New Pics of the Mystery Boa....Named ENIGMA...lol

DavidKendrick Jan 23, 2006 03:21 PM

I snapped a couple of new pics of enigma, these show his color a little more. So far we have had opinions that he looks like:

Mexican
Costa Rican
Venezuelan
Nicaruagan
and a mix of locals..

I think he is super interesting, would love to breed him, but probably won't since we don't know what he is...He sure is a cool snake, I am glad to have him. BCI has to be one of the most fascinating diverse species I have ever worked with. They are simply a rainbow of differences. Thanks to all who replied earlier, and hope you like the pics. Not the best, but hey....I tried..lol

What ever he is, he is a good looking animal. I would lean toward Mexican myself on a locality guess. Then again he looks similar to some Hypo littermates I've seen.

Very gorgeous, interesting boa... I personally feel it'd be a shame if you didn't ty to pass on his unique looks.

what would I breed him too?? Since we cannot verify his locale, we can't breed him and sell the babies as "enterlocale", I mean we could but don't want too. My idea was, if we can't breed him to produce other locale boas, then the only other option is to breed him into a morph project, like hypo or albino. But my wife is against that idea, and since its her boa project, ya know...lol

I guess we are just going to wait and see if we come across a simular boa thats a female and we can just call them BCIx's

I guess you had the same idea. I do think breeding an Albino to him would be a good idea. With the variety of looks that come from Albino X's it would be fun to see what happened. I think as long as you are sure to explain to customers that this boa is of unknown origin I do not think breeding him to an Albino is a bad idea.

If I had to guess I'd say Mexican bci. Whatever he is he sure is a handsome boa.
Good luck with him and I hope you decide to breed him.

We purchased a pair of what was labeled CanCun Mexican boas, the female was not as high contrast as him, I have tried to go back and verify with the people we bought him from, we will see. We just don't want to breed him to another CanCun and have people not believe that he is one, and say that we are selling X's as pure locale...ya know what I mean...We will wait and see what happens, he is a very beautiful boa in real life, and he is super dwarfed, he is 3 years old and is only about 3-3.5 feet long...Thanks for the reply and opinion...

solidifies my assumption of being a Mexican locale. If he were Costa Rican he should be much larger, as according to a well known locale breeder Costa Ricans reach large size.

You know, i've been reading your posts, and I somewhat disagree with the mexican comparisons.

Every Mexican Boa i've seen has mostly had large, but this X shaped saddles. This guys saddles are too thick and not that large.
The cancuns i've seen have this X saddle pattern, as did some leopard hets i've seen.
The sonorans have white in the saddles, usually as white circles, one on each side of the saddle. This guy doesn't.

I can honestly say he looks 99% like 90% of the Costa Rican boas i've seen posted.

We can eliminate hondurans and panamanians, I have both and the color is way off.

Well, just taking another stab at it...

Nice pic!

thanks, Joe

Here is an adult male hypo cancun boa - enjoy!
