Don't try this at home

My Puff Adder was very calm for once yesterday. I normally seldom open her cage since she is always very pissy bordering on rage. The lens was just 3 inches from her, no magnification trick here. My hands are protected by a plexigass barrier that surrounds my lens. I still seldom do this because I'm too old to be wetting my pants when they hit the plexiglass.

Great pic Al, that is a gorgeous looking arietans...

I have a few snakes that are "camera shy", more like "flash shy" actually...they sit calmly until the flash and then whammo, strike out, evertime, like clockwork. Needless to say, I usually avoid using flash photography with them, both for their sake and mine! :D

Nice looking atrox. Is it a pastel or just high pink?

Hi Tim,

The atrox is actually a wild snake, photographed in situ along the NM/AZ border (Hidalgo County, NM). I didn't mean to infer in my post that the snake was mine.

Most of the younger atrox I've encountered in that area have been of this color phase.

I have 4 arietans, a relatively mellow pair, and of course a "typical" arietans pair.
Say hi to my "typical" male, getting ready for dinner...
