but we have a dark normal female that has a patch of white scales on her side. The patch is circular and good sized - probably about 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter. It's smooth and consists of regular appearing scales so it's not a scar or an old burn.

We didn't raise her from a baby so I'm not sure if she's always had them or not. It appears that way. We've had her for about three years now and they haven't changed. She's gravid right now so I'm curious to see if any of the babies pop up with it.

Keep us posted on yours!

Thanks,
Celia

REPTILES magazine, but the December 2004 issue had an article on Dumeril's Boas. Many Dumeril's in the U.S. have white spots under their chin, and this WAS thought to be from inbreeding. Since there is a selective origin to the Malagasy boas this theory made sense.

However under examination of wild specimens it was noted that many of them also have the white spot.

I also noticed on my Leopard the small group of white scales.

Celia, see if your Leopards have this. Mine also has an Orange belly (I know not all do) and the two traits may be linked.

Fun Stuff!

both of my dunerils also have patches of white scales on the throat .. its nothing to be worried about, just a patch of skin with no pigmentation.

Oh...I wasn't worried..I was hoping it was something cool....*L*
Oh...and I think most Dumerils have the white scales on the throat....not so much in "redtails"..

Thanks, Terry
