Green Bush Ratsnake - Temperment

WertherNYC Jan 23, 2006 09:32 PM

I'm thinking about getting a young CB Green Bush Ratsnake, and would appreciate any information from people who keep them about their temperment.

Mine are quite forgiving if I put myself in their position. They will pose in your hand and false strike if curious or nervous. They should not be handled for your enjoyment though. Overall disposition is a shy species in my experience. The majority of the pictures you see, their expression looks as if they are about to be probed by aliens or something.

They have advanced environmental requirements and need a large cage to climb in. On top of that, little is published about their true requirements. Not at all a text book captive.

I had the E.prasina from Loei (Thailand). This snakes never bite me. Very easy to handle.
Now I have a couple of HET. for blue E.prasina from Vietnam. There is a lot of diference with the ones from Loei. From Vietnam like to strike to your fingers and handling is not so easy. They turn around very quicly. What I want to say is that there is a diference in Loei and Vietnam.

Mine are sweethearts. If they strike it's cause they want to get out of my hand after staying for a while. Just letting me know they want to be put down. I have been bitten only twice by new babies.

Are you located in the US or do you ship overseas?

I would be interested in any future clutches...

Thanks for sharing.

The 4 I have are pretty aggressive
But I never really handle them.
I have had one pair since 98' and they are always willing to let me know my presence is not appreciated.

got to love ratsnakes though. Can't blame em. I like snakes with character as long as they have short fangs.

I am always interested in diversifying my prasina stock if anyone is to have future clutches (even though all of ours came from 2.3 imports, or so the story goes...)
