It has been noted that spiders have "better" appetites than some of the other morphs. Because of this it is easier to get them up to breeding size in less time...BUT...this can be deceptive because size is only one part of the breeding equation.
The snake must also be sexually mature (this means the males must be old enough to be producing viable sperm AND know what to do with it)
Look at it this way: A 12 year old boy can produce sperm...but really doesn't have the "maturity" to know what to do with it.
I know my example may not be the most pleasant one, but I think it illustrates the point well enough.
There are plenty of stories of 400-600 gram pastels and spider males breeding before they are a year old...but there are far more stories of male balls that don't breed until they are closer to two.
