New to BP breeding. PIN and Spider

danpython Jan 23, 2006 10:40 PM

I have a male PIN (550g) and male Spider (560g) both hatched 2005. They don't seem interested in breeding yet. I was told that Pins and Spiders breed earlier than typical BP's. How can I coax them along? I have even put them in the same tub with female to get a competition thing going but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

It has been noted that spiders have "better" appetites than some of the other morphs. Because of this it is easier to get them up to breeding size in less time...BUT...this can be deceptive because size is only one part of the breeding equation.

The snake must also be sexually mature (this means the males must be old enough to be producing viable sperm AND know what to do with it)

Look at it this way: A 12 year old boy can produce sperm...but really doesn't have the "maturity" to know what to do with it.

I know my example may not be the most pleasant one, but I think it illustrates the point well enough.

There are plenty of stories of 400-600 gram pastels and spider males breeding before they are a year old...but there are far more stories of male balls that don't breed until they are closer to two.

Have patience.

Good luck.

Woe you are starting tehm up way too fast. Balls need to be 1000g or better to breed, females usally get there in their third winter, and males sometimes take a year more to get rolling.

Dan, Just keep putting you males with female that you think/Know are going to cycle they will eventually breed. Here are some photo's of small below 450 gram males breeding. I prefer my males larger but I believe when they are ready they will breed. Hope this helps and keep entering the males to the females they will start. Thanks david
