how can i tell if my dragons are wanting to bread or lay eggs
Head bobbing of male, arm waving of female. Male's beard will darken to black (some will be dark orange/red depending on teh morph of the dragon but normals will be black). Mounting the female indicates actual breeding behaviour.
Note: All the above (except actual copulation) is done as dominance/submission displays between females, smaller animals will do arm waving etc to larger or more aggressive/dominant animals etc.
If you have a mature male (around 6-8 months), they will exhibit breeding behaviours with any females of that age or older they are housed with, unless the fem ale is overtly aggressive and chases him off.
Males and females should not be housed together after 6 months of age if y ou are not intending to breed. ALso, if you do want to breed, the female should be at least 15 months old (18 months or older being better). Breeding too young can be dangerous to your female, puts a heavier strain on her body, as she is still trying to grow and has the added pressure of producing eggs. She will have a higher chance of egg binding, low hatch rate, smaller clutches and it can overall shorten her life expectancy.
