Where to get inexpensive SILKWORMS?

Kribby83 Jan 24, 2006 01:38 AM

hi,

does anyone know where i can order some silkworms off the internet that won't cost me an arm and a leg?

all the places i've checked are selling 50silkworms for $20!

isn't that expensive? does anyone else have experience using these worms as feeders? the sellers say that they're worth it b/c they are bigger, less in fat and more full of meat than the other worms, i just don't think 20 dollars is worth only 50 worms. i mean how filling can they be?

What do you guys think?

Thank you for your advice!

50 silkworms for $20 is alot, unless you are buying large silkworms. I can get 100 small silkworms for $15 plus shipping up here in Canada. Not sure where you are located, if canada also, check out {url]www.silkworms.ca[/url] If in the states, there is:
www.mulberryfarms.com. Other big mail order companies in teh states have silkworms, just can't think of them offhand.

During Spring/Summer seasons i believe are the best times to use Silkworms only because this is when mulberry leaves are available. It's best to find an acessable mulberry tree near you and then raise the silkworms yourself. 10,000 eggs only cost about $25-30 while that many baby silkworms would cost 10x that much if not more. Buying silkworms for the price of 50 for $20, add on the silkworm chow to get them to the "larger size" will end up costing you much more than you want. Your best bet for now is to just use another feeder, as for cheaper silkworms you might be able to find some at reptileauction, i use to sell 100jumbo(fully adult) silkworms for $20 shipped on there and im sure a few people still do.
